But more than that, we want people who are passionate about making a meaningful impact at an exciting company. If that's you, we want to talk. Chaos Theory works at the digital intersection of sports, entertainment, and cryptocurrency, and we are hiring to grow like crazy. Early in your tenure, we want you to be able to say, “I am learning new things every day, and my work is directly contributing to the kind of growth most companies can only dream of.” Let’s make that happen together.
A Day In The Life
Your day starts with clearing your messages and emails - either replying or re-routing queries to your team. With each response, you tap into your vast knowledge of HR best practices, ensuring that every reply you send out is consistent with Chaos Theory's values and culture. As you read and respond, you make thoughtful trade-offs, balancing employee satisfaction with the company’s perspective and policy.
You jump into a brief check-in meeting with your team, discussing priorities and unblocking any issues. You assign one person a new project around employer branding, giving a structured briefing and setting them up for success. A few of you then spend some time at the whiteboard, mapping out clearer ownership, and optimizing the flow of onboarding and offboarding processes to both improve efficiency on the HR side, while raising the bar for the employee experience.
Before lunch you go into deep-focus mode, drafting some updates to HR policies and planning the change management and communication plan for their rollout. You enjoy the challenge, thinking about how best to address the diverse needs of Chaos Theory’s employees.
You grab lunch with a tenured people manager, jumping between providing a listening ear, exchanging ideas and gaining a useful perspective, all of which energizes you as you head into the afternoon.
You had intended to get started on planning for the annual compensation review process but get interrupted with an urgent request from a department head regarding an employee issue. Some might feel stressed, but you approach it with a positive, can-do attitude. Collaborating with the necessary parties, you resolve the matter effectively, showcasing your knowledge of HK employment law.
You finish the day in one of your regular Leadership catch ups with our Chief Product Officer. You’ve noticed her org structure isn’t optimal and you’re using a coaching-style approach to help her think through some key changes and hires to improve it. You also spend time driving a discussion on the implications of these org changes for other departments, and align on what will be needed to execute the changes successfully.
As you close your laptop, reflecting on the day, you're proud of the value you bring to Chaos Theory. You’re not just delivering excellence in HR; you’re growing skills in your team and multiplying your positive impact across the company. Another day well spent, and you look forward to the next with the same enthusiasm and determination.
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
- Demonstrable hands-on experience as a Senior HR Leader. We’d love to hear about how you’ve had a positive impact both directly, and via leading and building a great HR team.
- Broad generalist experience, from payroll and policies to performance management and people management training, you’ve had exposure in all key areas of HR. You relish the challenge of juggling multiple projects across different areas and rolling up your sleeves to get things done.
- Great relationship building powers. Building rapport comes naturally to you, and you sprinkle just the right amount of diplomacy and tact in your interactions.
- Flexibility and a strong sense of ownership, you can work autonomously whilst prioritizing multiple responsibilities within a fast-paced environment. You’re able to adapt, but also make a strong case for change when needed.
- An open and creative approach. You’ve got a passion for making improvements based on knowing your people, collecting and analyzing relevant data, and the broader business context.
- People management experience. You’ve hired and developed the careers of HR professionals.
- A solid understanding of Hong Kong’s Employment Ordinance and HR-related legislations. You’ve handled cases and written policies in line with these laws.
- An excellent understanding of English (verbal and written). You’ll need to communicate and lead effectively across a wide variety of team members, from various cultures, and present (sometimes maybe slightly boring) information in a way that people happily engage with.

- Ensuring HR has the right processes, systems, responsibilities and team structure to work effectively and efficiently. You’ll look for innovative, light touch and scalable solutions.
- Conceptualizing / developing / maintaining / recalibrating / communicating HR policies. You’re open to non-standard ideas and will lead the rollout of any changes, designing and executing a strong change management plan.
- Guiding leadership on people related matters, both business-as-usual and forward-looking. You’ll help drive great org design, drive leaders to make meaningful improvements to their org, give trusted advice on personnel issues and tricky performance situations, and improve retention.
- People management of our HR function. You’ll develop their skills and careers as HR professionals, and own HR metrics, reporting and Goals/OKRs for the function accordingly.
- Developing process for, and owning, the HR budget. You’ll work with finance to manage spend across recruitment, training, insurance, salaries, bonuses and HR technology.
- Continually updating your knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in HR and relevant law. You’ll digest, distribute and act on this information to drive changes accordingly.
- Helping improve the quality of people managers across the organization. You’ll vary your approach according to needs, providing feedback, training and easy-to-engage-with processes to support and grow our people managers.
In exchange, we offer:
